Makkah Hotels 2026-2027: Distance to the Haram and Hotel Areas

Makkah hotels guide: the area around the Haram, Ajyad, Ibrahim Al Khalil, Misfalah and Aziziyah, distance to the Haram and shuttle arrangements, room types and the accommodation options in our Umrah packages.

In Makkah, your hotel's distance from Masjid al-Haram is the single most important factor in how comfortable your Umrah or Hajj journey will be. In a hotel a few minutes' walk from the Haram, you can rest between prayers and join the night worship with ease; with hotels served by a shuttle, you can stay longer on a more affordable budget.

On this page, you will find a side-by-side comparison of Makkah's main hotel areas, distances and walking times, room types and the accommodation options in our packages.

Makkah and Masjid al-Haram

In RotaNur Umrah packages, accommodation in Makkah is offered at four levels: hotels with a shuttle service 2.5-4 km from the Haram, walking-distance hotels 300-500 metres away, luxury hotels 200-300 metres away and premium hotels 50-100 metres away.

An open-buffet breakfast and dinner are included in the price of all packages. The exact hotel name is confirmed according to your group's travel date and notified to you in writing before departure.

Why Does Your Choice of Hotel in Makkah Matter?

Most of your days in Makkah are spent going to and from Masjid al-Haram. When you consider the five daily prayers, voluntary tawaf, night worship and any additional Umrahs performed after the first, your hotel’s distance from the Haram directly determines how many times a day you can go to the Haram, how tired you will get and how much time you can devote to worship.

Makkah hotels cover a wide range, from five-star hotels a few minutes’ walk from the Haram to budget-friendly hotels reached by shuttle. On this page, you will find Makkah’s main hotel areas, the distances and shuttle arrangements, the room types, and the types of accommodation used in RotaNur Umrah packages. For the Madinah side, you can visit our Madinah hotels page.

Choosing a hotel is not only a matter of comfort. For elderly guests, families with children and those who find walking difficult, being close to the Haram is the most important condition for a comfortable journey from start to finish. For guests who plan their budget carefully and are staying for a long time, hotels with a shuttle service lower the nightly cost and make a longer programme possible.

Makkah Hotel Areas: From the Area Around the Haram to Aziziyah

In Makkah, hotels spread out in rings around Masjid al-Haram. The table below gives a general comparison of the areas where Umrah and Hajj visitors stay most often. The distances are approximate; there can be a marked difference even between two hotels in the same area.

AreaLocation relative to the HaramKey featureWho is it suited to?
The area around the Haram (centre)Immediately around Masjid al-HaramA few minutes’ walk to the Haram; high-rise five-star hotelsThose who put comfort first, elderly guests, short programmes
AjyadSouth side of the HaramA long-established area where the Clock Tower complex stands; hotels right by the Haram and others set slightly further back sit side by sideThose who want to be within walking distance
Ibrahim Al Khalil StreetA main street running to the south and south-west of the HaramMany hotels of different distances and classes along the streetThose looking for a balance between walking distance and budget
MisfalahSouth of the Haram, around Ibrahim Al Khalil StreetAn old, lively neighbourhood; affordable hotels and marketsBudget-minded guests who enjoy walking
AziziyahBetween the Haram and Mina, a few kilometres from the centreWide streets and shopping options; transport to the Haram by shuttle or vehicleEconomy and long programmes, the Hajj season

As well as the name of the area, the hotel’s actual walking distance to the Haram and the gradient of the route also matter. Makkah is a mountainous city; some hotels that look close as the crow flies may require a longer walk because of steep streets. That is why, in our packages, we state the distance in metres or kilometres rather than by area name.

The Area Around the Haram and the Clock Tower District

The first ring surrounding Masjid al-Haram is home to high-rise hotels from which the courtyard of the Haram can be reached in a few minutes. The Clock Tower (Abraj Al Bait) complex on the south side of the Haram and the buildings around it are the best-known landmark of this area. Some of the hotels here have rooms overlooking the Kaaba or the Haram.

The biggest advantage of staying in the area around the Haram is being able to return to your hotel and rest between prayers. In busy periods especially, the courtyard of the Haram fills up long before prayer time, so being able to leave your hotel and reach the courtyard quickly is a great convenience. Hotels in this area are generally in the highest price bracket, and in peak periods rooms need to be allocated early.

RotaNur’s premium Umrah package uses five-star deluxe hotels 50-100 metres from the Haram in Makkah; the product page lists hotels such as Raffles Makkah Palace and Hilton Suites as examples. The exact hotel is confirmed according to your group’s travel date and notified to you in writing before departure.

The Ajyad Area

Ajyad, on the south side of Masjid al-Haram, is one of the longest-established hotel areas in Makkah. As well as large hotels very close to the Haram, the area also includes hotels set a little further back, in the side streets. The hotels close to the Haram are among the options most often chosen by those who want to be within walking distance.

When choosing a hotel in Ajyad, it is worth checking whether the hotel opens onto a main road or a steep side street. Of two hotels at the same distance, one may be connected to the Haram by a level road and the other by stairs or a slope. We pay particular attention to this detail when arranging accommodation for our elderly guests.

Ibrahim Al Khalil Street and Misfalah

Ibrahim Al Khalil Street is one of the main streets running from the south and south-west side of the Haram into the city. Along the street there are many hotels at various distances from the Haram, ranging from a few hundred metres to one or two kilometres. Hotels at the end nearest the Haram are used in walking-distance packages, while those further away are preferred for budget-focused programmes.

Misfalah is an old, lively neighbourhood around Ibrahim Al Khalil Street. It is known for its markets, restaurants and affordable hotels. Guests staying in Misfalah mostly walk to the Haram; as the distance depends on the hotel’s location, the walking time can also vary from a few minutes to more than twenty minutes.

RotaNur’s walking-distance Umrah packages use 4-5 star hotels 300-500 metres from the Haram in Makkah; the product pages list hotels such as Doubletree and Sheraton as examples. The exact hotel is confirmed according to your group’s travel date and notified to you in writing before departure.

Aziziyah and Areas Further from the Haram

Aziziyah is a large area between Masjid al-Haram and Mina, a few kilometres from the city centre. With larger rooms, wide streets and shopping options, its hotels suit guests staying for a long time and large groups. It is also popular during the Hajj season because it is close to Mina.

Guests staying in areas further from the Haram reach it by shuttle or vehicle. RotaNur’s economy Umrah packages use 3-4 star hotels with a shuttle service, 2.5-4 km from the Haram in Makkah; the product pages list hotels such as Razana Al Rawadh, Afaq Almashaeir and Meien Tower as examples. Which neighbourhood the hotels are in varies according to the group’s travel date. The exact hotel is confirmed according to your group’s travel date and notified to you in writing before departure.

Distance to the Haram, Walking Time and Shuttle Service

Knowing how distance relates to walking time helps you set realistic expectations when choosing a package. The times below are approximate figures for an adult walking at a normal pace on level ground:

Hotel’s distance from the HaramApproximate walkTransportRotaNur package
50-100 metres1-2 minutesOn footPremium Umrah
200-300 metres3-5 minutesOn footLuxury Umrah
300-500 metres5-8 minutesOn footWalking-distance Umrah and short Umrah
2.5-4 kmToo far to walkShuttleEconomy Umrah and long-stay Umrah

The distance refers to the route from the hotel’s door to the outer courtyard of the Haram. Because Masjid al-Haram is a very large building, entering the mosque from the courtyard and reaching the tawaf area around the Kaaba can take anywhere from a few minutes to twenty minutes more, depending on the crowds. We recommend allowing for this time when you plan your day.

With hotels that have a shuttle service, transport runs between the hotel and the drop-off points around the Haram. At busy times such as Fridays, Ramadan and the holy nights (kandil), vehicle traffic around the Haram may be restricted; in that case, you walk some distance from the shuttle drop-off point to the Haram. On busy days, our guides plan departure times with this in mind.

Room Types: Rooms for 2, 3 and 4 People

Folded ihram in a Makkah hotel room

In our Umrah packages, prices are set according to room type: there are options for 4-person, 3-person and 2-person rooms. The fewer people sharing a room, the higher the price per person. On some dates, prices may have been announced for certain room types only; for room types that appear blank in the date table, you can ask our advisor for information.

When spouses and family members state at registration that they wish to stay in the same room, the room plan is arranged accordingly. Guests joining with a group of friends tell us at registration who they will be sharing with; for guests travelling on their own, our advisor explains the room options according to the date and availability. In Hajj packages, and especially on the economy programme, rooms may be arranged for a larger number of occupants.

  • 4-person room: the most affordable price per person; ideal for families and groups of friends.
  • 3-person room: a balance between price and comfort; suitable for parents with one child or for three friends.
  • 2-person room: the most comfortable option for couples and for those who want more privacy.

Accommodation Tips for Elderly Guests and Families with Children

For guests with limited walking ability, the most important criterion is being able to reach the Haram from the hotel by a short, level route. For these guests, we recommend the premium packages 50-100 metres from the Haram or the luxury packages 200-300 metres away. Wheelchairs can be used inside the Haram; if you need one, mentioning it at registration allows our guide to plan your tawaf and sa’i accordingly.

Families with children, on the other hand, need to return to the hotel often: naps, meals and rest breaks are much easier to manage in a hotel close to the Haram. If budget matters, walking-distance packages offer a good balance. When you travel as a family, letting us know at registration that you wish to share a room ensures that the room plan is arranged accordingly. For dates that coincide with school holidays, you can also take a look at our mid-term school holiday Umrah programmes.

Meals and Services in Makkah Hotels

In all our Umrah packages, an open-buffet breakfast and dinner at the hotel are included in the price; economy packages offer menus suited to Turkish tastes, while luxury and premium packages offer an international open buffet. Lunches outside the programme and extra meals are not included in the price; around the Haram, there are restaurants and cafés to suit every budget.

Hotel lifts are usually very busy at prayer times. We recommend that guests staying on high floors leave their rooms a little before prayer time. Some hotels offer Zamzam water in the lobby or on each floor; you can also drink as much as you like from the Zamzam water points inside the Haram.

Umrah Tour Prices with Makkah Hotels 2026-2027

Our prices for Umrah tours that include accommodation in Makkah start from 75,000 ₺ per person. The factors that affect the price most are the hotel’s distance from the Haram and its class, followed by the room type, the length of the programme, the departure city and the travel period. Current starting prices per person:

You can find detailed prices by date and room type in the date table on the relevant product page. For dates whose prices have not yet been announced, the amount shown is marked as “estimated”. Flights, visa, accommodation, transfers and guidance are included in the price of all packages.

Accommodation in Makkah During the Hajj Season

During the Hajj season, hotels in Makkah go through the busiest period of the year, and accommodation is planned differently from Umrah. Since pilgrims stay in tents at Arafat and Mina during the days of Hajj, the hotel in Makkah is used on the days before and after Hajj. The hotel’s proximity to the Haram becomes especially important on the days of the tawaf of visitation (tawaf al-ifadah) and the farewell tawaf.

On RotaNur’s economy Hajj programme, accommodation is planned in hotels with a shuttle service or within a reasonable walking distance; on the luxury Hajj programme, in five-star hotels close to the Haram on a full-board basis; and on the premium Hajj programme, in the hotels closest to the Kaaba or in rooms with a view of the Kaaba. On Hajj programmes, the exact hotel name, the distance to the Haram and the room arrangement are notified in writing at the registration stage. For information on the rites of Hajj, you can visit our Hajj guide page.

Kaaba-View Rooms and Premium Accommodation

Being able to see the Kaaba from your room window is a dream for many of our guests. Rooms with a view of the Kaaba or the Haram are limited to a small number of rooms in the high-rise hotels immediately around the Haram, and they are priced higher than standard rooms. Because there are so few view rooms, such requests call for early planning.

On our premium Hajj programme, a Kaaba-view room can be planned; the view details are notified in writing at the registration stage. If you would like a view room on an Umrah programme, you can go over the options with our advisor according to the date and hotel availability.

Tips for Getting from Your Hotel to the Haram

  • Note the gate number: the gates of Masjid al-Haram are numbered. Save the number and name of the gate nearest your hotel on your phone.
  • Agree on a meeting point: in case you get separated inside the Haram, agree on a fixed meeting point with your group or family.
  • Carry your hotel card: always keep the card showing the hotel’s name and address in your pocket.
  • Leave before prayer time: the courtyards fill up early, especially for the Friday and tarawih prayers.
  • Use a shoe bag: keeping your shoes with you makes things easier if you have to leave by a different gate.
  • Take care in the heat: use an umbrella when walking during the day and carry water with you.
