What Does the Process of Hajj via the Diyanet Lottery Involve?
Hajj via the Diyanet lottery is the way citizens in Türkiye who wish to perform Hajj earn the right to go through the registration and lottery system run by Diyanet (Türkiye’s Presidency of Religious Affairs). All official steps, from pre-registration to the lottery result and from fee payment to Hajj training, are set by Diyanet and announced anew each year. RotaNur does not carry out any lottery or registration procedures in this process; it supports prospective pilgrims with information, preparation and Hajj essentials.
The main stages of Hajj via the Diyanet lottery are as follows:
Pre-registration: made during the period announced by Diyanet, through the channels specified in the announcement.
Pre-registration fee: the amount and where to pay it are announced by Diyanet each year.
Registration renewal: candidates who wish to keep their registration active must renew it during the announced period.
Lottery: those who earn the right to perform Hajj are determined by a lottery drawn on the date and by the method announced by Diyanet.
Registration and fee procedures: candidates whose names are drawn complete their registration and payment within the period stated in the announcement.
Hajj training: training on the Hajj rites (manasik) for prospective pilgrims is organised by Diyanet’s network of offices.
Health and document preparation: passports, vaccinations and health checks are completed before departure.
Once your name is drawn in the lottery, the preparation period begins quickly. You can ease the rush of the final weeks by getting everything you need, such as ihram, an ihram belt, a prayer mat, prayer beads, a pebble pouch and a Zamzam container, in one place from our Hajj essentials category.

This table has been prepared to show the general order of the Hajj rites. For Hajj via the Diyanet lottery, the groups’ arrival and return days, whether the Madinah visit takes place before or after Hajj, and the accommodation arrangements are determined by Diyanet’s group programme; the final details are communicated to prospective pilgrims through official channels.
Managing time and crowds is crucial during the days of Hajj. The move from Arafat to Muzdalifah and from there to Mina is a process in which millions of people move at the same time; for this reason, following the instructions of the group officials is decisive both for the validity of your worship and for your safety.
How Is Hajj Performed? The Main Stages
The obligatory acts (fard) of Hajj are ihram, standing at Arafat and tawaf al-ziyarah. Standing at Muzdalifah, sa’i, stoning the Jamarat, cutting the hair and the farewell tawaf are among the necessary acts (wajib) of Hajj; offering a sacrifice is also necessary for Hajj al-Tamattu and Hajj al-Qiran. A large proportion of prospective pilgrims travelling from Türkiye choose Hajj al-Tamattu, in which they first perform Umrah, leave ihram and then re-enter ihram for the days of Hajj. You can find the key differences between Hajj and Umrah in detail in our article on the differences between Hajj and Umrah.
Ihram, Tawaf and Sa’i
The Hajj journey begins with entering ihram at the miqat. Men wear two unstitched white sheets, while women enter ihram in their usual clothing that meets the requirements of modest dress; once the intention is made and the talbiyah recited, the restrictions of ihram begin. In Makkah, tawaf of the Kaaba is performed in seven circuits, two rak’ahs of prayer are offered behind Maqam Ibrahim and sa’i is performed between Safa and Marwah. These steps are explained in practice during Hajj training.
Standing at Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina
The most important pillar of Hajj is being present at Arafat on the ninth day of Dhul Hijjah. After sunset, pilgrims move on to Muzdalifah, where they perform the standing (wuquf) and collect pebbles for the stoning of the Jamarat. On the first day of Eid, Jamarat al-Aqabah is stoned in Mina, the sacrifice is offered, the hair is cut and pilgrims leave ihram; tawaf al-ziyarah is then performed in Makkah. On the following days of Eid, the three Jamarat are stoned in order and the Hajj rites are completed.

How Are the Fees for Hajj via the Diyanet Lottery Set?
The fee for Hajj via the Diyanet lottery is set each year by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) and shared with the public. For this reason, we do not give any figure for this fee; we recommend following the official announcements of the Presidency of Religious Affairs for the current amount, payment schedule and payment channels. Information on “Diyanet lottery Hajj prices” circulating in unofficial sources may be out of date.
Fee announcements usually cover the following: the amount of the Hajj fee and the currency in which it is set, whether the fee is paid in a single sum or in parts, how the pre-registration fee is reflected in the total fee, and the payment deadline. If different options are offered depending on the type of accommodation, these are also explained in the same announcement.
When planning your budget, it is helpful to take into account, alongside the official Hajj fee, your personal expenses, Hajj essentials, the costs of vaccinations and health checks, and your daily needs in the holy lands. Whether the cost of the sacrifice is included in the fee is also stated separately in each year’s announcement.
When Is the Hajj Lottery? Registration and Lottery Periods
2027 period: For the 2027 Hajj, pre-registration and registration renewal took place on e-Devlet between 18 May and 19 June 2026, the lottery was drawn on 22 July 2026, and final registration was completed between 30 July and 18 August 2026. (Source: Diyanet Hajj and Umrah Services announcement)
“When will the Hajj lottery be drawn?” and “When does Hajj pre-registration open?” are questions asked frequently every year. These dates are set by Diyanet and may change from year to year; for this reason, we recommend getting the exact dates only from the official announcements of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet). Accommodation in Makkah and Madinah for Hajj via the Diyanet Lottery
For Hajj via the Diyanet lottery, accommodation is planned as part of Diyanet’s Hajj organisation. The location of the hotels, the room arrangements and the number of days to be spent in Makkah and Madinah are determined by that year’s organisational structure and announced to prospective pilgrims through official channels. During the days of Hajj, pilgrims stay in tents at Arafat and Mina.
If a choice or information regarding the type of accommodation is offered, the effect of these options on the fee is also explained in the same announcement. If your expectations regarding hotel location and room arrangements are different, you can also compare the accommodation options of private Hajj programmes.
Transport, Transfers and Group Guidance
For Hajj via the Diyanet lottery, prospective pilgrims travel in groups. The flight from Türkiye to the holy lands, transfers between the airport and the hotel, the journey between Makkah and Madinah, and the movements between Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina during the days of Hajj are organised as part of the group programme. The cities from which flights depart are also specified in the official programme.
The religious officials serving with each group guide prospective pilgrims on the rites, show them how to perform their worship correctly and answer their questions. Sticking to the meeting points and times set by the group officials reduces the risk of getting lost, especially amid the crowds of the Hajj days. We recommend always carrying your group card and hotel details with you.

Places to Visit in Makkah and Madinah
Alongside worship, the Hajj journey also offers the chance to see the most important sites of Islamic history in person. In Makkah, besides Masjid al-Haram and the Kaaba, Jabal al-Nour with the Cave of Hira and Jabal Thawr; and in Madinah, the Prophet’s Mosque, the Rawdah, Jannat al-Baqi, the Uhud Martyrs’ Cemetery, Quba Mosque and Masjid al-Qiblatayn are the most visited places.
Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina, on the other hand, are not just places to visit for prospective pilgrims but the very places where the worship is performed. Learning about the history and spiritual meaning of these places in advance helps you experience the days of Hajj far more consciously.
What to Know Before You Travel
Official announcements: follow registration, lottery, fee and departure information only through the official channels of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet).
Passport: check its validity early; if necessary, start the renewal process in good time.
Vaccinations and health: get the vaccinations required for Hajj on time; if you have a chronic condition, obtain a medical report from your doctor.
Hajj training: attend the training sessions organised by your mufti office; learn the rites before you set off.
Physical preparation: walk regularly for weeks beforehand to prepare for the long walks during the days of Hajj.
Packing: make a list and prepare your ihram, comfortable shoes, slippers, a sun umbrella and your personal medication.
Cancellation and changes: the terms for RotaNur programmes and essentials orders are set out on our cancellation and refund page; the rules for registration for Hajj via the Diyanet lottery are set by Diyanet.
Hajj is a physically demanding act of worship. It is important for elderly prospective pilgrims and those with chronic conditions to undergo a thorough health check before departure, to take a sufficient supply of their medication with them together with their prescriptions, and to inform the group officials about their health.

How Do I Pre-Register for Hajj?
Hajj pre-registration is the first step to being included in the lottery system. As the registration conditions, fee and channels are announced anew each year, the steps below provide a general framework; be sure to read that year’s announcement before taking any action:
Review the Hajj pre-registration announcement and application requirements of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet).
Pay the pre-registration fee stated in the announcement through the specified bank or payment channel.
Complete pre-registration with your identity and contact details through the channel shown in the announcement.
Check that your registration has been recorded correctly in the system and keep your registration details.
In the following years, keep your registration up to date by following the registration renewal periods.
Details such as where and how the pre-registration fee is to be paid, and whether spouses or family members can register together, are explained in each year’s announcement. For anything you are unsure about, the best course is to get information from your provincial or district mufti office.
Hajj Registration Renewal and Checking the Lottery Result
Candidates who wish to remain in the lottery system must renew their registration during the periods announced by Diyanet. Which channel is used for renewal, whether a fee is required and what happens to a registration that is not renewed are all stated in that year’s announcement. We recommend following Diyanet’s announcements regularly so that you do not miss the renewal period.
Once the lottery has been drawn, results can be checked through the query channels announced by Diyanet. If there are groups given priority in the lottery or criteria such as age or year of registration, these are also announced together with the lottery rules. After learning your result, if your name has been drawn, it is important to note in your calendar the deadline for registration and fee procedures.

What to Know If Your Name Is Drawn but You Cannot Go
“What happens if my name is drawn in the Hajj lottery but I do not go?” and “Can someone whose name is drawn in the Hajj lottery postpone?” are the questions most often asked by candidates who cannot travel that year for health, family or work reasons. The status of those whose names are drawn but who do not complete registration, whether postponement is possible and matters such as refunds of fees paid are determined by the rules in that year’s Hajj announcement.
For this reason, before making your decision, we recommend reading Diyanet’s current announcement and speaking with your provincial or district mufti office. As Hajj is an act of worship that is obligatory once in a lifetime for those who are able, it is also helpful to consult a religious official when assessing changes in your health or financial situation.

Spiritual Preparation for the Hajj Journey
Hajj is not just about being in certain places on certain days; it also involves settling any rights owed to others, seeking forgiveness from those around you and preparing your heart. Many prospective pilgrims whose names are drawn pay off their debts, seek forgiveness from their loved ones and strive to make up missed acts of worship before they set off. This preparation makes it easier to turn to worship in the holy lands with a more peaceful heart.
Patience is the virtue most needed during the days of Hajj. Avoiding arguments in the face of crowds, heat and long waits, giving way to others and helping the elderly are behaviours in keeping with the spirit of Hajj. Reading books on the rites, preparing a list of supplications and listening to the experiences of relatives who have performed Hajj are also important parts of spiritual preparation.
