Holy nights (kandil) Umrah refers to Umrah programmes planned so that you can observe one or more blessed nights, such as Laylat al-Raghaib, Laylat al-Miraj and Laylat al-Bara’at, in the holy lands. The choice of package for a holy nights Umrah usually comes down to two questions: how many nights do you want to stay in the holy lands, and what level of comfort do you expect? On holy night dates, short programmes start from 4 days; there are also 7 and 10-day programmes, as well as longer programmes that can cover more than one holy night. For guests with limited leave who are focused only on the holy night and Umrah, the 4-day programmes in the luxury Umrah class stand out: flights are on Turkish Airlines, and accommodation is in 5-star hotels 200-300 m from the Haram. For those who prefer accommodation closest to the Haram and a small-group format, our premium Umrah programmes offer hotels 50-100 m from the Haram, with groups limited to 25 people.

Those who wish to observe more than one blessed night on the same journey, or to spend the days before and after the holy night in the holy lands as well, can consider long-stay Umrah programmes. As Laylat al-Miraj and Laylat al-Bara’at fall within the same month in 2027, a few weeks apart, it may be possible to spend both nights in Makkah or Madinah on a longer programme.

In short programmes, the itinerary is arranged so that the holy night is spent in Makkah; on some dates the route may begin in Madinah. For each programme, you are told before booking which day the holy night falls on and in which city it will be observed. In longer programmes, visits in Makkah and Madinah and rest days are added to this itinerary.

On a holy nights Umrah, the stages of Umrah are the same as at other times of the year: ihram is entered with the intention at the miqat, the talbiyah is recited, tawaf of the Kaaba is performed, two rak’ahs of prayer are offered behind Maqam Ibrahim, sa’i is made between Safa and Marwah, and ihram is ended by shaving or shortening the hair. What sets holy nights programmes apart is that they are planned so that Umrah is completed before the holy night, with separate time set aside for spending the night in worship.

Completing Umrah Before the Holy Night

In short programmes, Umrah is usually performed with the guide on the day of arrival. This way, you enter the holy night already out of ihram and rested. As you may feel tired when the flight and Umrah fall on the same day, our guide chooses times when the crowds are relatively light and recommends taking short breaks between tawaf and sa’i.

Spending the Holy Night in Worship in the Holy Lands

In the holy lands, the holy nights are not marked with special programmes as they are in Türkiye; the night is spent in personal worship at Masjid al-Haram or the Prophet’s Mosque. On these nights, it is recommended to offer voluntary prayers, read the Qur’an, repent and seek forgiveness, send salawat upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and make dua for your loved ones. Our guide shares with our group the meaning of the night and the acts of worship that can be performed; guests who wish can perform tawaf and make dua together with the group.

Because of the spiritual atmosphere of the three holy months, dates that coincide with the holy nights are in higher demand than the quieter periods of the year. Short luxury programmes are advantageous for those who want to spend the holy night near the Haram with limited leave, while longer programmes suit those who want to lower the daily cost per person and cover more than one night. The holy nights are determined by the Hijri calendar, and as the Hijri calendar shifts about 10-11 days earlier each year, their place in the Gregorian calendar changes every year. In the 2026-2027 season, the holy nights of the three holy months fall in the winter months, which means that night worship in Makkah and Madinah can be performed in cool, comfortable weather. Because of differences in calendar calculations, there may occasionally be a one-day difference between the Hijri calendar in the holy lands and the calendar in Türkiye; we plan our programmes based on the calendar of Diyanet (Türkiye’s Presidency of Religious Affairs).

Worship on a holy night often continues past midnight, so the hotel’s proximity to the Haram matters: it lets you spend the night in worship comfortably and return to your room to rest. Depending on your package class, accommodation is in 5-star hotels 200-300 m from the Haram on luxury programmes, in 5-star deluxe hotels 50-100 m from the Haram on premium programmes, and, on economy and long-stay programmes, in hotels within walking distance of the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah. The number of visitors to the holy lands rises during the three holy months; in the weeks of the holy nights, rooms around the Haram can fill up early. For this reason, accommodation on our holy nights programmes is arranged as soon as the dates are set. Meal coverage varies by package class and is stated on the relevant product page.

From the moment you land at the airport, our guide welcomes you and organises all your transport. On holy nights programmes, the Makkah-Madinah transfer is planned so that it does not interrupt the worship routine of the holy night; care is taken not to schedule a long journey on the day after a night of worship that continues until late. Transfers are made in air-conditioned vehicles, with rest stops.

Our experienced religious guide explains the meaning and history of the holy night, sharing with our guests the connection between the Miraj and the Night Journey mentioned in the first verse of Surah al-Isra, the fact that the five daily prayers were made obligatory on this night, and that Laylat al-Bara’at is known as a night spent in worship seeking pardon and forgiveness. The group’s meeting point and return time for the night are set in advance.

Time permitting, Jabal al-Nour (the Cave of Hira), Jabal Thawr, Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina are visited in Makkah with our guide. On Laylat al-Miraj programmes, Masjid al-Haram takes on a special meaning as the place where the Night Journey began; our guide tells the story of this event on site.

In Madinah, the daily prayers are offered at the Prophet’s Mosque and the blessed Rawdah is visited; on longer programmes, the Uhud Martyrs’ Cemetery, Quba Mosque, Masjid al-Qiblatayn and Jannat al-Baqi are also added to the programme. On short programmes, the Madinah days focus on the Prophet’s Mosque and the visit to the Rawdah. Visits to the Rawdah are subject to the Saudi authorities’ appointment system; our guide helps with this process.

• Passport: it must be valid for at least 6 months from the date of travel.
• Visa: we submit your Umrah visa application; you only need to provide the required documents.
• Vaccinations and health: have the vaccinations required by the Saudi authorities in good time; take any medication you use regularly with you, together with the prescriptions.
• Clothing: an ihram set or comfortable, modest clothing; a cardigan or light jacket for the cool winter nights.
• For night worship: a foldable prayer mat, a pocket Qur’an, a dua list and a power bank.
• Contact: always keep the hotel card and your guide’s number with you, especially on the holy night.

As time is limited on short programmes, packing light enough to manage with hand luggage alone speeds up transfers. Do not forget to leave room for Zamzam water and dates for the journey home.

The months of Rajab, Sha’ban and Ramadan are known among Muslims as the three holy months and are regarded as a period of spiritual preparation for Ramadan. Laylat al-Raghaib heralds the start of this period, while Laylat al-Miraj and Laylat al-Bara’at are among the most eagerly awaited nights of the three months. Spending these nights in worship, dua and repentance is a deep-rooted tradition that has been kept alive for centuries in Türkiye and in many Muslim communities.

Laylat al-Raghaib (Regaib Kandili) is the eve of the first Friday of the month of Rajab and heralds the start of the three holy months. This night is observed as an occasion to turn towards Allah’s mercy and generosity and to enter the three holy months with repentance and dua.

Laylat al-Miraj commemorates the Night Journey of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) from Masjid al-Haram to Masjid al-Aqsa and his ascension from there to the heavens. The Night Journey is mentioned in the first verse of Surah al-Isra; it is widely accepted that the five daily prayers were made obligatory during this journey. For our guests, spending Laylat al-Miraj in prayer at Masjid al-Haram therefore carries a special meaning.

Laylat al-Bara’at is the 15th night of the month of Sha’ban and is known as a night spent in worship seeking pardon, forgiveness and purification. Observed two weeks before Ramadan, this night is a milestone in preparing for the month of fasting with repentance and dua. The secret to making the most of a holy night in the holy lands is to enter it well prepared. Before you set off, we recommend preparing a dua list for yourself, your family, your loved ones and those who have asked you to pray for them; it ensures that you forget no one and no wish in those blessed moments. Deciding in advance which surahs and dhikr you wish to recite also helps you spend the night in a more orderly way.

As night worship lasts a long time, we recommend that you sleep for a few hours during the day before the holy night, keep your evening meal light and bring water with you. As Masjid al-Haram can be crowded on holy nights too, it is important to take your place before the Isha prayer and to keep the group’s meeting point in mind.
