Egypt Tour 2026-2027: Cairo's Islamic Heritage, Giza and the Nile Route
From Al-Azhar Mosque to Al-Muizz Street and from the Citadel of Saladin to the pyramids of Giza, our Egypt tour programmes combine halal food, a daily schedule built around prayer times and experienced Turkish-speaking guidance.
An Egypt tour offers a unique route for anyone who wants to see Cairo, one of the most deep-rooted cities of Islamic civilisation, together with its thousands of years of ancient heritage. A history that runs from the Fatimids to the Mamluks and from the Ottomans to the present day can still be felt in the courtyard of Al-Azhar Mosque, in the stone lanes of Al-Muizz Street and in the bustle of the Khan el-Khalili bazaar. The Egypt tours we prepare at RotaNur are planned so that you can explore this heritage without rushing, talking about its meaning along the way.
In our programmes we bring together Cairo's historic mosques, the Citadel of Saladin and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha, the pyramids of Giza and the banks of the Nile; depending on demand and the package, Alexandria can also be added to the route. What enriches a Cairo tour is not only the places you visit: a daily schedule built around prayer times, meals chosen with halal sensitivity and experienced Turkish-speaking guidance that explains the historical context at every stop are also part of the journey. Up-to-date prices and dates are shown on the package cards; you can message us on WhatsApp with your questions at any time.
On our Egypt culture tour programmes, accommodation is chosen with an eye to locations that make it easy to reach the sightseeing areas. To avoid losing time in Cairo's heavy traffic, the daily route is designed to group nearby stops on the same day; airport pick-up, hotel and sightseeing transfers are planned with private vehicles. When Alexandria is added, the intercity journey is also made in comfortable vehicles, with rest stops set in advance.
Our aim in guiding is to make the story behind the stones and domes easy to understand. Our experienced Turkish-speaking guide explains Fatimid, Mamluk and Ottoman traces side by side, and is with you on practical matters too, from bargaining in the bazaar to appropriate dress. Keeping the group together in crowded bazaars and making sure entry to museums and mosques runs smoothly are also part of the guide's job. The daily pace is balanced with the needs of our travellers with children and our elderly travellers in mind. Throughout the journey you can reach our team via our 24/7 support line and on WhatsApp.
Egypt Tour and Culture Tour Programmes
All our halal culture tour packages, including the Egypt tour, are listed below; you can check up-to-date prices and dates on the cards.
An Egypt Tour: A Journey to a Deep-Rooted City of Islamic Civilisation
In the streets of Cairo, the Fatimid, Ayyubid, Mamluk and Ottoman eras live side by side.
From the earliest period of Islamic history, Egypt became a centre where scholarship, trade and art came together. Fustat, founded after the conquest by Amr ibn al-As, marks the beginning of the Islamic era in the region; the mosque bearing his name in this area can be visited depending on the programme. It is known that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sent a letter to al-Muqawqis, the ruler of Egypt, and that Maria al-Qibtiyya came from this land. This deep-rooted bond makes Egypt far more than an ordinary holiday route for Muslim travellers.
The Fatimids, who founded Cairo, gave the city Al-Azhar Mosque, which still stands today. Add the citadel that Salah ad-Din al-Ayyubi (Saladin) began to build, the domes and minarets raised by the Mamluk sultans, and the mosques and sabils left from the period after the city came under Ottoman rule with the campaign of Sultan Selim I, and Cairo’s layered history comes into view. A well-planned Egypt tour lets you read these layers one by one: on the same day you can pass through a Fatimid gate, pause at a Mamluk madrasa and end the evening in a centuries-old bazaar.
Cairo’s Islamic Heritage: The Main Places to See
Al-Azhar Mosque, Cairo (Image: Wildoo78, CC BY-SA 4.0, Wikimedia Commons)
At the heart of our Cairo tour programmes is Historic Cairo, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The stops below form the backbone of the route; the order may vary depending on the package.
Al-Azhar Mosque and University
Built in the Fatimid period, Al-Azhar Mosque grew over time into one of the most deep-rooted centres of learning in the Islamic world. With minarets added in different eras and its spacious courtyard, the mosque is like a book of architectural history. Today Al-Azhar University carries on this tradition with students who come from all over the world.
Al-Hussein Mosque
Directly opposite Al-Azhar, Al-Hussein Mosque holds a special place in the hearts of Cairenes because of the shrine associated with Hussein ibn Ali. The crowd that fills the square, especially in the evening, is a fine opportunity to feel the city’s spiritual atmosphere.
Al-Muizz Street and Historic Cairo
Stretching between Bab al-Futuh and Bab Zuweila, Al-Muizz Street takes its name from the Fatimid caliph al-Mu’izz. Mamluk-era madrasas, mausoleums, sabils and caravanserais, above all the Qalawun Complex, turn this street into an open-air museum. It is one of the most enjoyable parts of the walking programmes.
Khan el-Khalili Bazaar
The heart of trade since the Mamluk period, Khan el-Khalili is made up of narrow lanes filled with spices, copperware, lanterns, essential oils and handicrafts. Taking a short break in its historic coffee houses and experiencing the culture of bargaining are among the unmissable moments of an Egypt culture tour.
Sultan Hassan Mosque and Ibn Tulun Mosque
At the foot of the Citadel of Saladin, Sultan Hassan Mosque, with its sections set aside for teaching the four Sunni schools of law and its imposing iwans, is regarded as one of the most impressive examples of Mamluk architecture. Ibn Tulun Mosque, meanwhile, is one of the oldest mosques in Cairo to have largely preserved its original plan; with its minaret wrapped by an external staircase and its spacious courtyard, it leaves a simple yet powerful impression. Al-Rifa’i Mosque, which rises directly opposite Sultan Hassan Mosque, can also be seen at the same stop depending on the programme.
The Citadel of Saladin and the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha
Rising at the foot of the Mokattam hills, the Citadel of Saladin is one of the places from which you can take in a bird’s-eye view of Cairo. Inside the citadel, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha clearly reflects Ottoman influence with its domes reminiscent of Istanbul’s mosques, its slender minarets and its alabaster cladding. The tomb of Muhammad Ali Pasha of Kavala is also inside this mosque.

The Giza Pyramids, the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Nile
Seeing the ancient heritage as a source of lessons and reflection.
The pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure on the Giza plateau, together with the Sphinx, are the most eagerly awaited stop of an Egypt tour. Walking and sun protection matter at this site, which spreads over a large area; for this reason, the visit is scheduled for the cooler hours of the day whenever possible. Entry to the interior of the pyramids may require a separate ticket and may be limited; as the narrow, enclosed passages are not suitable for everyone, our guide will brief you in advance. Depending on the programme, the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza can also be added to the route. Since the museum’s visiting arrangements and open sections may change, we share the current situation with you when the programme is finalised.
The Nile, for its part, is where Cairo breathes. An evening walk along the riverbank and, depending on the programme, a short boat trip on the traditional sailing boats known as feluccas offer a restful break after busy sightseeing days.
Optional: Alexandria
In the Alexandria section, which can be added on request, the highlights are the Citadel of Qaitbay on the Mediterranean coast, the mosque associated with the Andalusian Sufi Abu al-Abbas al-Mursi and the modern Library of Alexandria. A walk along the seafront gives you a good sense of the city’s character, which differs from Cairo’s.
Egypt Through the Stories of Prophet Musa and Prophet Yusuf
Egypt is one of the lands mentioned by name in the Holy Qur’an. Prophet Musa’s (Moses) struggle for tawhid against Pharaoh, and the life of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph), from being brought to Egypt to prison and from there to being placed in charge of the land’s treasuries, are told in the Qur’anic stories together with this geography. The examples of patience, chastity and forgiveness in Surah Yusuf offer lessons worth reflecting on again as you travel through the Nile valley.
That said, linking these stories to a specific building or spot is often a matter of tradition. For example, although Joseph’s Well in the Citadel of Saladin is popularly associated with Prophet Yusuf, it is generally accepted that it most likely takes its name from Yusuf, the actual name of Salah ad-Din al-Ayyubi. Our guide discusses such topics without making definitive claims about locations, presenting the different views; our aim is to keep a window open for lessons and reflection at every place we visit.

The Halal Concept: Food, Prayer and Friday
At the core of our halal culture tour approach is the idea that you should not have to compromise on your worship or dietary sensitivities while travelling. As Egypt is a Muslim-majority country, halal food is generally easy to find; even so, because some establishments in tourist areas serve alcohol, this sensitivity is taken into account when choosing restaurants and hotels.
Food: Local dishes such as koshari, ful, ta’miya, molokhia and fatteh are a natural part of the programme.
Prayer: The daily schedule is built around prayer times; in Cairo there is a mosque near almost every stop.
Friday: On Fridays that fall within the programme, Friday prayer is planned, whenever possible, at a historic mosque such as Al-Azhar Mosque or Al-Hussein Mosque.
Fruits such as dates, mangoes and guavas, along with freshly squeezed juices, also make refreshing breaks on hot days. If you have any special dietary needs, letting us know when you register makes restaurant planning easier.

Accommodation, Transport and Guidance
Cairo is a large and crowded city, so the choice of accommodation directly affects your sightseeing experience. Accommodation is chosen to make it easy to reach the sightseeing areas and to offer a comfortable rest at the end of the day. Airport pick-up and sightseeing transfers are made with private vehicles; with traffic density in mind, nearby stops are grouped on the same day. Rest breaks are built in after long walks; in the midday heat, indoor venues or a break at the hotel are preferred.
Our experienced Turkish-speaking guide is with you throughout the programme. As well as explaining the history of the sites, the guide also helps with shopping in the bazaar, appropriate dress and everyday practical matters. Throughout the journey you can reach our team without interruption via our 24/7 support line and on WhatsApp.

To see Cairo's historic mosques, the Citadel of Saladin and the Giza pyramids without rushing, you need to set aside several full sightseeing days; the programme gets longer when Alexandria is added. The duration and current dates of our packages are shown on the package cards. We can choose the option that suits you together on WhatsApp.
As the vast majority of Egypt's population is Muslim, halal food is generally easy to find. Local dishes such as koshari, ful, ta'miya and molokhia are widely available. Since some establishments in tourist areas serve alcohol, we take halal sensitivity into account when choosing restaurants and hotels.
The daily schedule is prepared around prayer times; in Cairo there is a mosque near almost every stop. If the programme includes a Friday, Friday prayer is planned, whenever possible, at a historic mosque such as Al-Azhar Mosque.
We recommend a headscarf with long-sleeved, loose-fitting clothing for our female travellers, and clothing that covers the knees for our male travellers. As shoes are not worn inside mosques, shoes that are easy to slip off are practical. Comfortable shoes are a must for walking areas such as Giza and Al-Muizz Street.
Since entry requirements can change, we recommend confirming the current situation with official sources before you travel; we guide you through the application process. We also advise following the travel advisories of Türkiye's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the security situation.
Egypt's currency is the Egyptian pound. Although cards can be used in large shops and hotels, cash is more practical in bazaars such as Khan el-Khalili. Bargaining is common in the bazaars; our guide will point you to reliable places to shop.
