During the days of Hajj, your needs change from one day to the next: you take water, an umbrella and a prayer mat to Arafat, a thin mat and a shawl to Muzdalifah, and spare clothes and personal care products to Mina. A foldable backpack is a practical solution that makes room for these changing needs yet takes up no space when not in use. With a capacity of about 20 litres, the RotaNur Foldable Lightweight Backpack carries your daily items; when you are done, it folds into its own inner pocket and becomes a palm-sized pouch.

About the Product

The bag is made from thin, lightweight, water-resistant polyester fabric. The main compartment closes with a zip; the zippered front pocket is for small items, and the two mesh side pockets are for a water bottle or a folding umbrella. The mesh shoulder straps are adjustable in length. When the bag is folded, the zipped inner pocket becomes a small pouch that holds the entire bag. Because of its light construction, it is designed for daily essentials rather than very heavy loads.

Using It on Your Umrah and Hajj Journey

An Umrah or Hajj journey means long walks between Masjid al-Haram and the Prophet’s Mosque (Masjid an-Nabawi), dense crowds and, very often, a hot climate. When every item you take with you is light, practical and durable, it is easier to focus on your worship. As wearing fragrance is prohibited while in ihram, remember to choose unscented care products. For a complete preparation list, take a look at our Umrah Guide and Hajj Guide.

Who Is It For?

It is suitable for those going on Hajj whose daily items do not fit in a waist bag, for anyone facing long days on their group’s schedule, and for anyone who wants to save space in their suitcase. It also comes in handy as an extra bag for sightseeing in Makkah and Madinah, for shopping and on the journey home.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much space does it take up when folded?

When folded into its own inner pocket, the bag becomes a small pouch of about 16 x 14 cm that fits easily in a suitcase pocket.

How much can it carry?

It is designed for daily use and comfortably carries everyday loads such as a water bottle, a shawl, a prayer mat and personal items. It is not recommended for very heavy loads.

Will the contents get wet in the rain?

The fabric is water-resistant and protects against brief showers; in a prolonged downpour, water may get in through the zip and the seams.

Can a backpack be used while in ihram?

In its guidance, Diyanet (Türkiye’s Presidency of Religious Affairs) states that carrying a bag around the neck does not require a penalty; as a backpack is not worn like a garment either, it is widely used by those performing Hajj. If you have any doubts, you can consult the religious official accompanying your group.
